Hike

Come discover the pleasures of hiking at the Brussels Games 2010.

We tempt you to appreciate the beauty of Tervuren, the Foret de Soignes and the Red Cloister during our +/- 2*10 km hike. We will start hiking in the beautiful park of Tervuren Museum. Then we will cross the magnificent Arboretum of Tervuren and Zoniënwoud (Forêt de Soignes) to reach the area of ​​Rouge Cloître (Red Cloister), where a special 20th Anniversary picnic will be held for all participants.

After the break we shall head to the Tervuren Museum, discovering new trails and trees of the forest.

The Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA)

The RMCA is internationally recognized as one of the finest and most impressive museums devoted to Africa. Since its inception in 1898, the Museum's mission is to conserve and manage collections, scientific research and disseminate knowledge through numerous museum activities, educational and scientific aimed to a wide audience.

The Geographic Arboretum of Tervuren.

The planning of the Geographical Arboretum began in 1902 under the aegis of Charles Bommer, curator of the National Botanical Garden of Meise, and professor at the Free University of BrusselsI It is one of the jewels of the Brussels Green Crown. The Arboretum is located in the Bois des Capucins, an ancient oak forest (some trees are still there), north-eastern extension of the Zoniënwoud which is populated mainly by beech. The Arboretum has an area of approximately 100 hectares and is home to 460 different tree species (including 305 deciduous trees and 155 conifers) and altitude on the site varies between 80 and 115 m.

The Red Cloister:

It is located in Zoniënwoud. Everything, from its buildings to ponds, is synonymous with history: the walls, in good condition, the priory of the abbey of the eighteenth century, the old farm Priory, nice one-storey square building, the old outbuildings with their carousel, the miller's house, gathering place of painters, ...

 

The day of the hike

The morning meeting place is set for the Africa Museum at 10.15 am at the parking area near the white elephant. At 10.30 am, we will start the hike (+/- 02.30 hours ). Africa Museum : Leuvensesteenweg 13 - 3080 Tervuren. Parking at the foot of the white elephant that is in front at the entrance of the Museum, and left along the Leuvensesteenweg.

At 01.00 pm, there is a special 20th Anniversary picnic at the area of Rouge Cloître (Red Cloister).

The afternoon meeting place is set for Red Cloister at 02.00 pm. At 02.10 pm, we will start the afternoon hike. Red-cloister : Rue du Rouge-Cloître, 4 - 1160 Brussels  (Auderghem)

Between 6.30 and 7.30 pm, we have reserved the pool next to the volleyball court for relaxing session "cool down & dress down" with athletes from other sports. Fun guaranteed!

Participants coming from abroad can apply for hosted housing. They will be offered private accommodation with a BGS member in or around Brussels – on a first come first served basis. To register for housing simply select the "no sports" option.
